I'm assuming it is mostly a surname, as in Briggs and Stratton lawnmower motors. Perhaps a Mr. Briggs was a partner in founding that company.

I knew a morbidly obese kid growing up named Colleen Briggs. Her mom, dad, and little brother were all just as huge. It might be a cute and unique name for a boy but I have that association. Sorry.

as a first name?
I loved the first name Hunter for a boy, but it was my maiden name, i just thought it had star quality.
But hey Briggs is cute and quite strong for a first name, for a boy!

As I've never heard of the name before, it's definitely unique. Personally, I don't like the name much and probably wouldn't give my child this name, but that's just my opinion. If you like it, go for it!

I like it, it is unusual, cute for a baby, a boy, and a grown man. Sounds distinguished without being presumputious...
