serious answer would be Capitalism and rampant consumerism, with an undercurrent of religious zealotry. but I am cynical. I am sure Bill o riley , will tell you , it's run on freedom, and democracy. The truth is probably where you want to see it. It's a relativist question, hence needs to be tailoered for your preferences.
