Me father's brother is quite heavy handed with the alcohol around the holiday (and in general). And it often makes for some rather cruel entertainment at my expense (vicious jokes about my hair and teeth). If he does it again this year, should I punch him out cold?

No, what purpose would that serve? Try talking to him when he is sober and explain your feelings to him in a calm manner. Rise above his behavior and don't sink to his level. It may not stop his drunken behavior but at least you will have said your piece and gotten some of it out of your system. Does everyone just put up with it , or do they say something to him? It is pointless to do it while he is drunk, because he won't absorb it at all. The booze gives him false and often inappropriate "courage" to say hurtful things he shouldn't be saying. Alcohol makes many people lose their inhibitions. It is Christmas, so try to keep the peace and not contribute to his nasty behavior. Good Luck and Merry Christmas.

I know what you are talking about. When he arrives...give him a hug and tell him thanks for coming but you hope you can get thru this holiday without any of his untoward remarks to make you feel bad again this year. Add that you have gone to a lot of work, effort and expense to provide a nice gathering for the family and you'd like it to go off nicely for once.
If he does not behave, remind him of your announcement. If he continues, never invite him again, ever. Let everyone know it too. Do it, mean it. He lives in his own drunken world anyway and isn't willing to change...but you can.
You are not alone...lots of people have to deal with these people...free drinks and they suck it up fast and become belligerent, insulting, loud and stubborn. Real idiots. Warn everyone ahead of time that if they continue to tolerate him...you will not, at Christmastime or any other time.

That is so seriously bad. I can't believe a family member could do that to you. Why is he invited? just leave the room and do something else. Don't hit him because then he wins. Tell him if he does not like the way you look then don't look at you. just get away from him and don't let him ruin a fun day for you.

no, do that and you'll either end up getting arrested or else he'll punch you back. best thing you can do is try to get a few comebacks in to lighten the mood, if that doesn't work then you should just try and keep out of the way to avoid the temptation of doing something stupid

Warn him once that you are now too old to be disrespected. If he continues, square up to him, but do NOT throw a punch. If violence is to erupt let him start it and then get stuck in.

If you **** him first, your dad will side with his brother. If you stand up for yourself and give fair warning, everyone, including your uncle will finally agree you are the good guy

Good luck.

If it is your house, do whatever you wish. Maybe he needs a good punch in the nose. I know I would. Otherwise, fire right back at him. You could say something mean about that silly bugger as well.

well I'd certainly suggest doing SOMETHING about it... perhaps when he is sober if you can catch him that way. My guess is punching him (enjoyable though I'm sure it would be) would cause more problems, and then make him pick more and more cruelly in the future!
