I think too many people expect too much from Christmas, and lose sight of what it is.

Same thing with death. A good friend of mine died today - heart attack. An uncle died on Christmas a number of years ago. Earlier in December we had the one year anniversary of 60 kids from a school where I had worked who all died in one plane crash.

But I believe in life after death, and so I believe those who have died are in a much better place - and I wouldn't bring them back if I could. I miss them - but more than I miss them, I am happy for them. Rather like people who go on a cruise. I miss their not being here - but I wouldn't deny them the trip.

Christmas isn't what it was when I was a boy. And I have had warmer, more people-filled holidays than this year. But it is what it is. This year (for me) is more a Christmas of reflection and remembering, where others have been more parties and presents. That's ok - it's what it is.

So yes, I'm in this year's Christmas spirit. We'll see what next year's Christmas turns out to be.

Nope. I have to work and not really thrilled about that. At least I am getting some overtime pay though.
