You don't give up on the friendship, but ask him to understand in order for you to grow you must make your own mistakes. Your glad he is there for you but he must be patient and let you spread your winds and fall if you might. You need a relationship that can grow into something, even though his advise seems to be correct most of the time. You need to make the chooses that influence your life.

Don't get rid of the friendship. Learn to stand up for yourself. Get some counseling around issues of assertiveness and boundary setting. Then if godfather friend dude can't deal with your independence - let him take a hike. You need to do this for yourself as you'll just run into other controllers in your life if you don't get your own assertiveness spine in good shape.

Tell him that you need to live your life and if you make mistakes then you'll learn from them. Let him know you don't want him out of the children's life, but that if he doesn't stop interfering then he'll have to stop coming over. It will be hard to do. Best of luck.

you sure he don't want you for himself? He sounds like a saboteur. Tell him he needs to keep his opinions about your love life himself or don't say anything to you at all.
