Because people want to live the present, not the future. Education is for the future.

Well, I am a high school junior, and I can honestly say that I don't hate school. I'm just rather disappointed with what I am learning in it, for I do recognize that education is a necessary facet of life. The heart of my issue with school lies in the fact that I am learning many things which I will most likely never use again in my life.

I believe that we need to start more specialized education earlier for those that know what they want to do. It will give them a leg up in society, to enter the job field quickly, and begin amassing experience earlier.

Personally, I want to major in psychology, and international affairs, and I can truly say that learning calculus really isn't going to affect that in any significant way. I do still think that we should offer such courses, for those who are still uncertain as to what they wish to do, but I don't see a need to force everyone to go through what is essentially the same generic education.

Oh, and I'm not saying this because I'm some disgruntled student, I am taking 5 college level classes, including a three year course in which I do post-graduate science research work, as a junior, and I also have a 95 average.

Let me know what you think,

Nothing has changed in that aspect over the last 30 years. The attitude toward school generally has to do with the adults raising the children. If school is not important to them then it will not be to their children. It is also possible that the peers cause some of this attitude, but not as much as their "parent". I have been a school teacher for the last 30 years... I should know. I feel like I have seen it all! For the most part, the children are absolutely wonderful. I wouldn't trade those 30 years for any job in America. Have a great holiday.

My one big reason is simply this; after 7th grade, I don't feel that anything I've learned in most of my classes will actually help me in any career that I'd possible want. Sure, it makes me "smarter" somehow to know all the gritty details about the Spanish-American war, but how does it help me in the long run? And we spend about 10 classes on that subject (a good 9 hours of my life, not counting homework), only to have me forget most everything that I learned by the start if the next grade.
And honestly, I don't know anybody who needs to know advanced algebra for their job - both of my parents never have used anything more advanced than multiplication for their jobs, and I know for a fact that I'll be the same. I've got no interest in being a mathematician.
Plus, the fact that our life's worth seems dependent on knowing these things that (to me) are worthless, and getting a college degree.
Think about this; there are several kids I know in my 10th grade class that understand how to graph matrices on a calculator, but can't spell the words "Squirrel" or "Business", and still confuse "Their", "They're", and "There".
School is supposed to be fun?

Parents, !!!!! Forget, there non-advice!!! Parenting doesn't come with a manuel or instructions. So, these two are still at the first chapter, with no intent on learning, what is best for you. Not one person, who you say hates you,is without fault themselves. Only way to get out of a bad reputation, is stay completely clear of those people. Or persons. Don't abuse drugs or alcohol, because, it clouds your clear thinking. And, it is easier to screw up, again. Keep a journal, of positive things you do. Any chores, excercise, homework, what makes you happy. When you feel the life you live in, is unmanageable, and you want to get away. !!! All eyes, look at you,and make you out as the demon girl,. You can only tell yourself. I made a big mistake, I learned that, and turn to these hungry hateful wolves, and say "I'am sorry", . "Please, know, I learned, I will not make the same mistake twice". Quote "To error is human"!! If you need a little reassuring. I'am always getting myself in trouble. Always, have been strong willed and bull headed. If someone says I can't, I do it the way I want. And, for all the bad things I chose to go ahead and do. I never think, until I'am were I want to be. Then I know, that "I'am Truely Sorry", has been my path to being respected again. By my peers,co-workers,family and freinds. Like you, I've broke down in tears. Feeling sorry for my actions, at least , I showed , that I was not demon girl, with a cold heart. Did you know, my boyfreind years ago, had a brother, that hated me so much. When he came even close to me, his eyes, had rage. But, I didn't know, why!!! He just hated me. One day, all of the people from the race track,(horse racing),met for Saturday Bowling leagues. There was this brother again, right in the middle of the bowling alley, I burst in tears, looking at me in disbelief, he shook his head. I finally had enough hurt,, I wanted to know, Why,!!?? he finally spoke, and my tears, and pain melted his hate. To this day17 years later, he smiles and talks to me.In passing. His brother, long ago, moved on. Made millions as a jockey., and I feel at peace. At least, today. Until, I tick another person off, for being so silly!! Speak to the counselar in your school, or a church. As long as it is not catholic.

Teachers are mediocre. Studies show they are not underpaid as the media has us to believe. There is plenty of money to fix the schools but the money is misappropriated. Many superintendents make 6 figure incomes. Teachers don't care, parents don't care which trickles down to the students. Have a nice day.

Inadequate discipline (is there any?) for unruly & bullish students who disrupt the learning process. Cliques. Too many teachers who fail to prepare kids for the real world. Teachers who no longer teach spelling & the rules of grammar resulting in kids who sound stupid & couldn't write a complete sentence if they had to. Teachers who don't correct students who use poor grammar or mark off for bad spelling in any subject not just English. All of which doesn't prepare students for decent jobs.

Having to get up early. Having to study. Lots of really longgg days. I was glad to graduate; I hated school too.

People hate schools, because they don't teach reading, writing and arithmetic anymore, but are indoctrinated with political correct mumbo jumbo. The same people who say that parents shouldn't teach their kids religion but to let them decide when they grow up are the same ones forcing humanism and secularism down the students throats. Our kids aren't stupid. They know when crap is being shoveled high in school and that is why they hate it.

Because most of the successful people in this world have made it without higher education. Also the quality of our teachers and schools sucks in recent years and most kids are finding their own way anyhow.

Because school is supposed to help us get further in life and recognise our full potentials but anyone can have a stroke of luck and become rich and the educated bite the dust financially.
