Then eventually my browser stops responding at all and I have to reboot. The problem seems worse when I'm on Yahoo Answers, but it happens anywhere on the net. What's causing this?

Your computer is storing all kind of cookies, history, and stuff. I run this program every time I log off. Works great.

Could be a number of things... and it can be browser dependent.

First off - over time, browsers begin to eat more and more memory... eventually, in combination with other apps using memory... the system runs out of RAM and begins using virtual memory (the hard drive)... this invariably begins to slow a system down.

In addition, browsers cache web pages, in order to 'improve' the speed at which web pages display. The problem there is that eventually the cache reaches a point where it is no longer efficient... a point at which pages load from the web faster than from the huge cache.

There are a lot of other possibilities that may explain what you are experiencing... dependent on the system hardware, the operating system, the browser being used, other software on the system particularly antivirus and antispyware that may have been triggered during browsing...

One other thing that I can directly point to - if you're using Windows XP with automatic updates, or other programs with automatic updates, you may notice periodic slowness, that can last for minutes to hours - in this situation - an application has begun an automatic download from the net...

Find someone in the tech field to look at your puter... that's really your best bet.

Try this. Go to your "tools". Open it up and scroll down to internet options. Open this up and clear all cookies and your temporary file. The longer you are online the more cookies you generate and some have spyware that slows down your system.

Limit the size of your browser cache, both memory and on the hard drive. I never have that problem,

You probably have a slower computer and very little RAM. That is typically what would happen if that was the case.

Use Ad-Aware and Spybot to remove them. Also run full system scan of your Anti-virus software.

Your internet connection is weak. Perhaps you are sharing a connection which will cause that to happen.
