It has been sent to that area before for other activities. It has cameras with long-range heat seaking capabilities, can be flown in hurricane strength winds, can stay up for a very long time, and was recently used from the Nevada Air Guard to search for those missing mountain climbers in Oregon. So WHY aren't we using it to find bin Laden?!

I DO know what it does because all of the info was given on the news when it was sent to Oregon. The Nevada Air Guard has one with the capabilities and it Usama does not need a locator device to find him. That's what the purpose of the heat seaking capabilities are for. This unit has found people on a mountain here in Nevada from six miles away. As for the cost, Usama bin Laden has cost of billions of dollars in aid to Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. But especially the cost in all the lives lost in the destruction of the Twin Towers. If we can spend the extra money on sending more troops in, then why not spend the money on the C130?!

To Phil J: That may be so but there is at least one that is located at Nevada Air Guard that has been equipped with cameras and heat seeking equipment and other high-tech equipment. http://www.nv.ngb.army.mil/Air/

Nevada Air National Guard joins in search for missing hikers
CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Air National Guard is set to join in the search for three missing hikers missing on Mt. Hood in Oregon today. Dependent on weather conditions, a Nevada C-130 aircraft will use its Scathe View imagery technology to search for the missing persons. The plane departed Reno at 11 a.m. and will likely join in the search this afternoon.
The Scathe View imagery system consists of a sensor mounted to a modified C-130. The turret is controlled by on-board imagery analysts working at a sensor control workstation. The analysts can link full motion video to ground staff for review. The Scathe View equipment is manned by the Nevada Air Guard’s 152nd Intelligence Squadron. The 152nd is the only squadron in the nation equipped with this imagery system. Info on mission will be released asap. Weather may affect this mission at any time. A C130 starlifter is a transport jet. Although it can be equipped with infra-red cameras, to say that all C-130's have this capability is wrong. Are you asking about a particular C-130? Secondly, looking for hikers in a small limited area is a great use for the C-130, however trying to find one guy, who we have no idea where is, in an entire country, or the world for that matter, would be pointless, and a waste of time and tax payer dollars. Thanks for you help in Military planning, but you may wan to leave these decisions up to the men and women who know what the equipment is, and does.

Muck raker brings up very good points about the capability of the C-130. I personally think that we will NEVER get him, but if we do get him it will be with a combination of satellite surveillance and a cruise missile. For other methods the fact that he is probably in Pakistan is a problem. If you want to find him there you need to find him in a way that no one knows the recon is there, especially the government of the country we are flying over. A C-130 is what you might call anti-stealth. It's big, loud and slow. Even if we had permission to perform military operations where ever we needed to to find him they would hear the plane coming miles away and go into the cave where they are near, where they will not show up on infrared. The C-130 is a great plane and has been used in many capacities in the US since its introduction in the 1950's. Right now the best way it can help is to provide support for our troops in the form of a gunship or "Puff the Magic Dragon" where it is a big plane with a whole lot of guns to disrupt attacks. That's where the IR comes into play. If the enemy moves at night they get burned by Puff's fire.

he is dead , realize it and accept it -
Translation of Funeral Article in Egyptian Paper:
al-Wafd, Wednesday, December 26, 2001 Vol 15 No 4633
News of Bin Laden's Death
and Funeral 10 days ago
Islamabad -
A prominent official in the Afghan Taleban movement announced yesterday the death of Osama bin Laden, the chief of al-Qa'da organization, stating that binLaden suffered serious complications in the lungs and died a natural and quiet death. The official, who asked to remain anonymous, stated to The Observer of Pakistan that he had himself attended the funeral of bin Laden and saw his face prior to burial in Tora Bora 10 days ago. He mentioned that 30 of al-Qa'da fighters attended the burial as well as members of his family and some friends from the Taleban. In the farewell ceremony to his final rest guns were fired in the air. The official stated that it is difficult to pinpoint the burial location of bin Laden because according to the Wahhabi tradition no mark is left by the grave. He stressed that it is unlikely that the American forces would ever uncover any traces of bin Laden.

I'm sure they have all sorts of infrared, heat seeking surveilence tools up there. The rat is probably hiding in a cave somewhere and his heat signature is obscured by the rocks. Or, and we can only hope, the bum is dead.

To be perfectly honest with you, I think it's way past time that we all realized if they ever had really wanted to find him, they certainly could have a long time ago. Looks to me like just another big pack of lies by our sinister government. I think this whole war on terror is completely phony and contrived.
