All people are able to visualize. But some people are more adept with this than others. Some of us rely heavily on words and language as a way to enccode information and consequently spend less time creating actual images in our brains. Then there are those whose brain prefers the visual mode. Think artists, architects, engineers. They rely heavily on their visualization abilities and probably use that mode as the "default" in their everyday thinking. As with most things, the more you use an ability, the better you get at it. So someone like you, who visualizes naturally, just gets better at it. Someone like me, who wants to put everything into words, has more difficulty because I don't exercise that part of my brain as much. And I agree with the person who answered earlier that our education system tends to be oriented more toward the verbal folks than the visual ones. That may be why a lot of people work the verbal part of their brain more and say they can't visualize.

Actually the brain doesn't really think in pictures. But a puzzle piece way. It slowly (or quickly) builds up a "picture" or memory and etc.
Your friends who can't supposeably visuallize are just not very visual, maybe they read better or do better physically or audio. Because there are many different types of processes that different brains do better on.

People are right brain dominant or left brain dominant or neutral neutral people usually have very high genius IQ. The right brain uses pictures to process info in patterns then categorizes that into information. The left brain is analytical and very linear almost computer like a numerical. If you can do both very easily you are a genius.

The brain works more efficiently when it thinks in form of pictures. But we have been taught from our childhood that thinking in terms of words is the way it is done. Remember, when we were young we were disciplined by elders not to day dream when in the class and such. They consider day dreaming, which is thinking in terms of pictures, as some kind of a taboo....a wastage of time. But thinking in pictures would help us to better cmmunicate with out subconcious mind.............both in influencing it as well as in revealing answers from within. Even though some say that they can't imagine or think in pictures, it is just that they aren't used to it, but a little practise with persistence and patience can help them a long way.
