Buy a router. They are easy to set up and are pretty secure.

yea the easiest way is to use a router so they can both share internet. Wifi, or wireless is better so they dont have to be wired. Also make sure to turn on printer and file sharing through both computers. In XP, you can do this by going to control panel, right clicking on network connections, going to the "advanced" tab and clicking the checkmark for accepting connections. BY DEFAULT THIS IS NOT ENABLED so you must do that to get them to communicate with each other.

you have to by a router then go from cable modem to router an router to the two PCs

well you need to get a router, connect the modem with the router and connect the router with your PCs.
myself i have 3 PCs they work well with rounter. good luck.

buy a router -----------------but where i live i coudnt use a wireless one..which is a pain but it works
