Pres. George Washington vs. Pres. Abraham Lincoln, and why?

Analyze both men based on their presidency and in your opinion, who is better?

Lincoln suspended the Habeaus Corpas to jail protesters, shut down hundreds of newspapers that disagreed with his war, and instituted firearm restrictions. Washington lead us during the Revolutionary War as Commander and Chief. After the war was over instead of taking over the country like so many others would have done he resigned and handed control over to the Continental Congress. He was there at the Constitutional Convention and helped with the drafting of the Constitution. In my opinion Washington was the better President.

Washington would probably not like the fact that we are so involved in world politics, he would see us as another Britian, trying to force our ideals on others. This, of course, goes much beyond just President Bush. It is also interesting to note that both Lincoln and Washington fought wars that were unpopular at the time but have proven to be very important in American history. The Revolution and Civil War were not all that popular among most Americans during thier time but have since become defining moments in American history. Iraq, no doubt, will be a defining moment, whether the outcome is positive or negative, for future generations to study.

It all depends on what you are looking at. Simply put, Washington brought the country together. Lincoln kept it together. Like all Great presidents they faced a constitutional crisis and the result was a stronger United States. The both help mend rifts and the country was more enlightened and secure.
