Was the adult a relative? In that case it's obviously OK.
Was the minor foreign? In some languages and cultures, "I love you" means nothing beyond casual affection. Indeed, that's all it means in any singles bar in any big city in the world.
If the minor is prowling for sex, she is probably not a minor at all but a cop trying to set you up.
Forget it. Stay away.

If the child is a relative, it's probably innocent. If not, why is an adult continuing a relationship (via e-mail) with a minor? Under NO circumstances should any romantic, sexual or emotionally needy relationship be pursued by an adult, under any circumstances. I am VERY leery of adults who encourage lengthy internet correspondence with minor children.

The very fact that you are on here asking the question tells me you were uncomfortable with it and if that's the case you need to end that email relationship.
Have you ever watched Primetime on ABC? Lot of men are going to prison for a long time over situations like you are describing.

If it's a friend relationship say thanks and I care a lot for you but if it is a minor that has a crush on you then tell them that you appreciate it but they should save their love for someone that is perfect for them. It's nice and it won't hurt their feelings. And fyi......if it is a minor with a crush, back off as it could get you in trouble even if you have appropriate intentions.

I seem to be the only one that has noticed your previous note....
To be frank, if there is an exchange of kisses and an 'I love u' comment.....the sentiment is probably a little clear. Unless the child is too young to understand the physical concept of making love, its likely that its romantic....

The reply is "thank you dear and I love you, your Mom, Dad and Uncle Harry". It's lovely to know all of you. (Insert the right relationship info/names).
This tells the child that you are not sexually attracted to them, you are just being friendly.
