I would go with Windows Defender. AVG (formerly Ewido) Antispyware does not come with real time protection, unless you are willing to spend money to purchase a license. PC Magazine reviewed the program and found it to be subpar. It did poorly in detecting and removing spyware. PC Magazine gave it a 2 out of a possible 5. You can read their review at:

"ewido anti-spyware 4.0" (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1993995,00.asp)

On the other hand, both PC World and PC Magazine have glowing reviews for Windows Defender - though the final version has not undergone rigorous testing.

Go with "Defender". It has real-time protection that does not expire when the trial period is over like AVG A-S does.

Defender will scan and give you real-time protection for life. AVG will only be an on-demand scanner after 15 days unless you pay!

yer not compareing apples to apples here. windows defender is pretty good, just dont try to uninstall it. also if adware is from a ms friend defender wont see it. spybot is a better program for spyware. spysweeper is better, pest patrol is better all have real time to some degree. the last two cost.
