American phones will work any where in the world provided you talked to your service provider to make that plan choice before you left for India. This will increase your billing. It will be better to buy a different phone you can use in India which might have a flexible billings,in case you plan to go to India and have your phone with you.You also mean that you want to buy an American phone and use in India, then buy an unlocked phone from the Internet or anywhere available. You will be able to use sim card from cell phone service providers in India. On the other hand,if you want to use an India network phone in the US.You must work on roaming service with your phone company so that you might be able to use the prepaid or postpaid option to pay for talk time.It isn't advisable to use an Indian cellular network in the US.
