Christmas has become a marketing and media circus in the US - and the total focus is on CONSUMERISM and SPENDING
It has nothing to do with us growing up - if xmas was like it was when I was a child, it was about LOVE, CARING, being with friends and family and COMPASSION
Now it is about how much you SPEND and what you spend it on. It's no more a holiday anymore than Valentine's day or Sweetest Day - it;s just a ploy to get you to spend money on junk you don't need.

Oh hon, Christmas has been a drag for me for years. Even when my daughter's were little, I had to "pretend" I was excited. I was a foster child, and really had very little at christmas, and it was a very painful experience for me, and, my sister. Now, I'm a Grammie of a 6 month old little girl. This year, I'm excited because of her. It's still be an effort, but this little child has changed my out look on life. ~~~

I agree. The media will try and link anything to Christmas - just look at the KFC adverts - "take the trouble out of Christmas dinner". It's totally shameless, and then it comes around and it's just the same old stuff.
It doesn't help that the main Christmas institutions in England seem to be getting drunk and watching TV repeats.

It is not a drag, it is dragged out. Some stores have had Christmas stuff out since August. Four months is an awful long time to push one day for a profit. I wish you a fun Christmas!

It is meant for children but has been grabbed by the
adults who overdo their drinking and eating. I do not
drink any alcoholic beverages and find Christmas a
big drag, so I thank you for asking in a friendly manner,
and my answer is, "good tidings" to you my friend, which
kindly extend to all those that you care for. Iain Ritchie

Christmas is better for me year by year, now that I am an adult and can buy more for people, and do more for people, and to make Christmas special for people:
A wickedly Merry, joyous, and Happy Christmas to everyone!

Well this year is probably the worst Christmas for me, we had our car repaired and $760 later I've no money for presents and had to borrow to pay my rent. I did some major regifting this year, not because I didn't like the gifts, but because I had to use them as gifts for others.

I hate my christmases. My parents dont celebrate christmas cuz my dad thinks that people shouldnt cuz jesus 'never asked for it' so we don't do the presents or tree or lights. I hate it cuz christmas is so pretty and i always envied the fact that we could never have a pretty christmas, so me and my sis just exchange presents. anyways...I wouldn't know
