Put a line of copper wire along the ridge and they'll go away.

Someone mentioned copper, that may work also, but our new shingles have Zinc in them and have no mold, mildew or algae in 8 years.

Check with a pressure washing company and see if they do roofs and what does it take to clean it off and not damage the roof.

I can't answer this but was wondering if these solutions would help keep algae off of vinyl siding also. I have to wash one side of my house every year because of algae and it is in the sun too, but on the back side of house.
