The oldest athlete to perform in the olympics was in the 2006 Turin winter olympics. His name is Scott Baird, a member of the US curling team. He did not medal.

It might be Chionis of Sparta. Performed in the Olympics of 656 BCE, so that makes him 2,662 years old. Specialized in long jump and running, and reportedly was able to acheive the same feats as modern athletes.

scott baird, curling guy... age: 55 started curling at age 10, but he competed in the 2006 winter olympics (he also qualified '98 & '01 trials) and placed with a bronze... here's his page... http://www.usacurl.org/athletes/biographies/scott_baird05.html
