Yes, not all the rules are always right, and not all the right is based on rules.

Hmmm...I would say that at this point in my life, if I don't like the job, I don't bother with it. I don't like profound issues made out of nothing type of thing, but some rules are there for the better and it is a matter of honesty. For example, I am a real hardliner in the hospitality business. Nobody gets discounts, free coupons, free meals, etc. We are not allowed to do it and I don't. I used to not be like that and then I thought of the money being lost. I gave stuff away because at that time, the management told us to do what was necessary to please the customer, even give them stuff. I saw managers and staff members do it. Then the owner banned us. Those were back in my Tim Horton's days. I also worked at a seafood place but quit because the owner was a jerk.
As for myself, I don't just 'give' stuff but will help a friend in need. I will give people things and pay for stuff, no strings attached if I feel like it. Now on bending a few rules, if it is a case of getting someone a job interview or some help in the school system because of one reason or another, nothing illegal about it, nothing immoral about it, I would not worry about it. What do people brownnose for?

I did this a lot when I was younger....bending rules, lying, cheating, stealing, whatever you want to call it, yep....In my 20s and early 30s I was a ruthless, cold person.
Now....not so much. I'm just tired of people hating me whenever I do succeed, and the truth is...for all the trouble I went through when I was younger, I didn't really *get all that much success* out of it.
So yeah, it got to the point where I wasn't getting anywhere further with those tactics, and people were really and truly getting *militant* about attacking me, to the point of sending me repeated emails in nothing but ALL CAPS. Among other things.
So not any more. I mean, it doesn't work for me anymore, didn't work so well in the first place, and...well...yeah, people hating me is bad.

It depends of the situation but in general, no I wouldn't make compromises. The rule is no compromises but the exceptions still exist.

There are some but I generally try to do what is best for the greater good and not just myself. To be honest...Karma scares the he11 out of me! ha ha! It's good though, it keeps me balanced and in-line (usually....)
However, there are some rules I don't agree with....so I tend to make my own.
