Does our solar system( including our sun) orbit around another star greater than the sun? If so.. are there any books or web sites you recommend me to read? And also.. how long does it take for this orbit to take place and how far away from our sun is whatever we are orbiting?

The Sun orbits the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Our solar system is located far from the center, in a distant spiral arm 250 quadrillion km or 28,000 light years.

So it takes millions of years here on Earth for our sytem to make it around the Milky Way. Between 225,000,000 and 250,000,000 years.

If you read anything you want to know more about on the first website, look it up on Wikipedia, they work out well togeather.

No, our sun orbits the center of the galaxy (Milky Way).
Of course there are billions and billions of stars much larger than our sun. But our sun doesn't orbit them. I suppose you could say the sun orbits the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy, but that's a semantic distinction.

It takes the sun about 226 million years to orbit the milky way:

Our solar system is not orbiting around any other star.
It is situated in an outher arm of our galaxy, the Milky Way, which is a spiral galaxy rotating around its center, and our solar system with it.

I share your love for space. Just type in "Universe" and surf the net. There are an unbelievable amount of interesting sites available. Try it and enjoy yourself.

Just a piece of trivia... There are more stars in the Universe than there a re grains of sand on the Earth.

I don't think so but!...there is the Kuiper belt! and the solar system might be like this:::

**********************************************************************
P
******
P *** Sun *** P
********
P

**********************************************************************

So...

KEY:

* = Aseriods
P = Planets

So if you can see the connection! The outer planets might be inner planets fo another asteriod belt (Kuiper belt) and here might be something bigger than them outside!
