Now I personally love the both of these movies; I had people get mad when they chucked It's a Wonderful Life after the Macy's parade for the dog show; that was tradition here; shoot. I love Miracle on 34th Street and next year, I will watch both;

Frankly, I cannot give you an answer as they are both equal to me in exemplifying the Christmas spirit to those who have doubts as in George and Maureen O'Hara as the store employee who also does not seem to believe her daughter. George has his watching angel and O"Hara has her Santa Claus. To me, they are both excellent movies for Christmas and signify the true spirit of Christmas.
