First, determine what type of heater you have. Whether you try and fix the problem or not, you need this info. For the fastest response, I suggest calling a reputable plumber, tell him what type of heater you have, and ask how much is a service call. I, personally do not charge to assess your problem. I will ask some pertinent questions over the phone, and 6 out of 10 times, I will discover the problem, from the questions asked. I can then direct you in fixing your own problem, and save you a service call. The way I look at it, if I help you with the small stuff, then hopefully you call me for the big items. But that's just me. Good luck to you, and Merry Christmas

First of all, locate your hot water heater. You'll have to determine whether it is gas, oil or electric. If it is gas you may have light the pilot light, if you don't know the procedure you should get some help. If it is oil, it is probably in need of a service, nozzle, electrodes, etc. If it is electric you have to check the breaker or if your house is old, the fuses. If your capable of checking voltage at the element(s) you could possibly narrow your problem down. If you have voltage at your element(s) you need to shut off the electric, unhook the element(s) and check for continuity. Always check the simplest item first. Hope this helps.

Do you have a gas or electric hot water heater? Our gas hot water heater goes out every couple of months. It sometimes goes out if it is windy outside. The instructions are where you pop of the cover on the bottom. But if it is a new one, then it should not have a pilot probably. Most have automatic ignitions now. If electric, check your fuse box.

Check your water heater, Is the pilot light out (if it's gas). Does it have power to it - check to see if breaker has tripped (if it is electric). May have a bad heating element. Be careful messing with electricity, call an electrician!

check setting on water heater. how old is the water heater? call a plummer and replace it. if its electric your heating elements may be bad. do you drain your water heater to clean it out? its best to drain the water heater every couple of years. sediment builds up and covers the elements. this will reduce the temp. of the water.

Your water heater has likely failed. Although it could be a fuse thing -- my old house had a fusebox dedicated to the water heater. I'd check into that first.

Your hot water heater is malfunctioning. To tell you what to do, we would need to know what kind of hot water system you have.
