as you progress through the game, you'll eventually be able to ride the old man's boat to get to a town with a cave to the northwest. i think it's called dewford

there's a man in the middle of town (i think he's outside) and he'll ask if you like to fish or something - tell him you do, and he'll give you a fishing rod

fishing in ruby, sapphire, and emerald is different than in the other pokemon games.

after you've used the rod at the water's edge, dots will appear in the box that shows messages.

as soon as it says that something bit, push the A button one time

sometimes things need to bite as many as 5-7 times before you can fight whatever pokemon you caught. sometimes you get in a fight in the first two bites. sometimes nothing will bite - just try again

You need to get a rod like a Old rod,Super rod or a Good rod.Super rod is the best but oLD ROD Are FOR beginners.You can just only get Margikarp or Tentacool if u are using a Old rod.If u are fishing do not press A too fast nor to slow if u see something like "Oh!A bite",press it at the right time.
