In the Sunday Times today there was a Comment that Political Party activists should view Strictly Come Dancing and it should be encouraged for mass viewing because of the "Feel Good Factor". And This, it says could translate into votes.

There was another nrelated item that said there are many single people because most watch soaps, like Friends, and come to expect similar qualities from potential partners. This is fantasy coming home alone.

The fact of the matter is that the people 'upstairs' want us to stay in and watch t.v. Have a think about all the things people could do instead of staying in yet we never do them because programming scheduals are designed to make us want to stay in. If the majority of the population were out in the evening it would mean too many individual random factors to control and too much manpower to control it so they need to keeps us in check, think of how much harder it would be for them to control our views our, likes and dislikes if nobody stayed at home anymore. Most of us want for a better life and so they constantly feed us with images of this better life so we can stay at home and dream. Most of the people who are influenced by advertising are influenced because they are afraid not to have those things because that would mean they weren't leading the lifestyles being shown to them on tv.

I agree that TV is unreal and lacking in reality despite all those so called reality programmes.

To base ones life on the script of some soap opera engineered to the height of manufactured drama is absurd and unreal though obviously real for some.

I was told off recently because I couldn't join in a conversation about some silly TV program of which I have never watched nor knew anything about and it was implied I was anti-social and out of touch, PHEW, I thought, TV is mesmerizing everyone.

Can anyone out there strike up a conversation without mentioning no TV at all ?

Best thing to do is give up the idea of TV, as I did 3 years ago and reconnect with real life and people instead of those candy floss people who look nice from a distance but have no real substance. :-)

That's how the way it is. These mediums are there to appeal on what tickles the audience's minds.

They are brainwashed because they allowed themselves to be under the spell of the idiot board.

Of course, they knew it. We're living in a modern world and there's so many means to get information. They just filter the things that appeals to them. Selectivity. Reality bites so they just go on with the virtual dream.

I only watch TV for the skin cream adverts, and just get a free local paper, to spread on the kitchen floor if I have to leave the dog for a while cos he's getting old. I miss the Russian media, but can always listen to Radio Moscow.

Yes!! You are right! There is actually someone that thinks the same way i do. I think that the majority of people just can't face reality so they go to non realistic T.V shows to soothe their souls. That is why so many people avoid the news ect.

I know wot you mean, because all relationships and family ties in soaps fall about in violent and traumatic fashion, people find it difficult to trust or live upto "romantic bliss" . Strictly come dancing is also about heartbreak and people having to take abuse from "experts" .feel good indeed!!

To answer your question -Why are we brainwashed by TV.
Maybe it is because we get involved with what our eyes see and our brains find it difficult to distinguish between fiction and reality. It can work to the good of us or the contrary.
