The best way to get over being lonely is 1) Make a list of all the good things in your life and all the many blessings you have received this past year and 2) Think of ways to help others who are not as fortunate, like volunteering at a homeless shelter.

I like to know the answer to that question too. I am a lonely single 40 year old mother. Men my age like younger women in their 20s. I usually go over my married sister's house for Christmas and spend time with friends and family. Everyone who comes over her house for Christmas dinner is either married or a couple. I feel left out. I am tired of answering questions "Where your man or you don't have a boyfriend?" Then I get the look like poor thing. So next year I might cook a small meal and spend the day at home watching Christmas movies or go to the movie theater. Yes, thank God you made it through another year but it is still a hard time for many singles during the holidays.

I have a friend in the hospitality industry, and he says that Christmas is the single biggest day of the year for restaurants - people go by themselves or with their families to dinner out instead of cooking at home. This seems unimaginable to me (coming from a very traditional home).

I also know that Blockbuster Video does a thriving business at this time of year - both for Christmas and New Years. Many new releases actually arrive on Christmas Day this year!

I am alone, but not lonely (I wish everybody would stop calling me up and asking me over!) I am going to the movies.

Sometimes they attend family dinners. Sometimes they stay home alone. Sometimes they smile to hold back the tears. Someyimes they rejoice that they are alive. Sometimes they read a book. Sometimes it is any of us.
