I think a lot of these answers are alarmist. In reality - theres not too much he can do without commiting crimes himself and unless he wants to go to jail he's very likely to do nothing.
People who tell you they're going to do things like this are usually the ones who never do. Watch out for the ones who speak softly and carry a big stick!
Best of luck (although I really don't think you'll need it).

Depending on his attitude toward you. If he's angry/stupid enough to try and use your number to get back at you, then don't wait a single day past christmas to report your number as having been stolen. You could probably do this as soon as you read my answer.
You can go to the Social Security Administration website:
www.ssa.gov
and report your number as having been stolen or compromised.
Then contact the credit bureaus:
www.experian.com and www.transunion.com and have them flag your number for possible future fraud.
This way you are covered. If you receive a notice from any of the above organizations that your number is being used in places you are not familiar with contact the police department immediately and file a complaint for identity theft/fraud.
On the other hand if your ex isn't mad at you and doesn't really desire to hurt you in any way, i wouldn't worry to much about it.
If he know's your birthdate, where you were born, etc. He also probably know's your parents names. He could sell all this information to an illegal alien immigrant for several thousand dollars so that person could acquire your identity.
In the long run,it may be to your benefit to get a new number issued to you. This way you won't have any problems to deal with in the future. Good Luck. Hope this helps.

He can get a credit card, use it for utilities, for a loan. Basically steal your identity and run up your credit. You need to report it stolen through the Social Security Office nearest to you that way you will be covered in the future if him or anyone else uses it.

He can he can't break you and ruin your credit, I would go to the nearest Social Security Office and report this and call the Credit Bureaus where they can put a red flag on your number.

Open credit accounts in your name and run up the charges, and you'll never know what happened until you get the bills. Bad news that he has your number. Try to make sure he doesn't use it. Threaten him with legal action if necessary. Good luck.

In short, they can steal your identity and gain access to all your confidential information and records. Not a good thing at all. If your bf threatened to use it against u, then he can certainly land himself in serious trouble when caught - that's a federal offense, if I'm not mistaken, stealing someone's SS# and using it for their personal use or gain.

It depends on what other info he has, such as your diver's license # and birthdate. But he would be really, really stupid to try anything because it would be easy for you to trace it back to him if he screwed you over.
