99% of the spam comes from outside the country. There is no way to stop it without a major redesign of the system.

Spam is illegal in just some places. Like California. However, it does not matter what the law is if you cannot locate and/or prosecute the spammer. Spammers set up in other countries as well as give viruses to you and others that use your computer to send more spam without you knowing about it. If you cannot trace where it is coming from you cannot prosecute. Not only that, but the shear volume of spam makes it hard to keep up with prosecution. right now 91 percent of all email is spam. The only way that I have found to completely eliminate spam is a free account at http://www.EnterTo.com
They have a new way that actually eliminates all spam.

As far as I know, spam is not illegal.
Best ways to lessen the amount of spam you receive:
1) Choose an email address that is unique. i.e. 4my1tobe@email.com. If your email is bob@email.com, spamming scripts can easily come up with your name and pound you with spam.
2) Only give your email address out to people you WANT to receive email from. i.e. friends and family. Don't enter your email when filling out registration forms online, or applications. If they require an email, create another email account for just that purpose.
3) Don't EVER EVER EVER reply to spam emails, especially the ones that say "Click here to remove you from my mailing list" or reply to this message with "unsubscribe". Spammers send out hundreds of thousands of these emails to randomly generated addresses trying to find out which ones have a live person (with money in their pockets) behind it. If you reply, plan on getting 100X as much spam.
If you are currently getting lots of spam you can do the following:
1) The easiest but fairly inconvenient way of solving your spam problem is to CHANGE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. Use the guidelines above for creating a new one.
2) Register with WWW.SPAMCOP.NET and report any spam you receive. If they receive enough complaints about a particular ISP, they will get blacklisted. Nobody wants to be on spamcop's blacklist, so hopefully that should make the ISP crack down on the spammer.
3) Have a good spam filtering program on your computer. Keep in mind that this only hides spam from you and doesn't do anything to actually SOLVE the spamming problem.
Hope this helps.

Most countries have laws regarding SPAM. The U.S. does and a spammer can be fined for sending spam. Some news reports have said some spammers have been fined $50,000+. Two things you can do, use SpamCop.net to report the spam. If you live in the USA, or the spammer is sending spam from the USA, also forward the spam to spam@uce.gov which is the handled by the FTC [Federal Trade Commission].

You are the the fault of gettting all that spam and only you.You go into all othese sites and look for and download there junk. You give out your address, you take serveys for the free laptops and gift cards. So its all you,set your spam blocker, the ones that get thru instead of deleteing them mark as spam. What ever you do dont open any of their attachments, thats where the virus is hidden.I open nothing in bulk.I dont look for free junk and i dont get any spam!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm no longer likely to humor this question with an answer as to if or no longer that's criminal. that's an entire gray section that incorporates the FCC, and so on. i'm going to, even with the undeniable fact that, enhance the BS flag by utilising asserting you haven't any longer have been given any thought a thank you to tug something like that off. in case you probably did, you may see the glaring flaws on your "good judgment" (or lack thereof). back to the drafting board.

WHEN I WAS FIRST ONLINED I WAS WORRIED ABOUT VIRUS' AND UNLESS I KNEW WHO IT WAS FROM I WOULDN'T OPEN IT. NOW ALL THE MAIL SERVERS REALIZE THE REPERCUSSIONS AND SEARCH EVERYTHING FIRST. I JUST TRASHED 132 FROM MY BULK FOLDER.
Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked.

Spam is illegal? I never knew that. It doesn't seem like that huh?
Try turning on your "spam" or "bulk" folder.

I wouldd suggest calling the police and telling them who are sending these e-mail every day and they will no longer allow that e-mail address to send these e-mail to anyone.
