they give it away to poor countries (rich leaders), spend it on important fact finding missions (holidays), spend it on bombs and then more on rebuilding afterward, give it away in benefits to idle people, waste a lot on bureaucracy keeping thousands of lower government workers in meaningless jobs, pay farmers to grow nothing, need I go on.....

Yeah, I'm not real fond of paying taxes myself, but...and it's a big one, I really do like living where I'm guaranteed mail service, have at least a little social security and medicare, Etc. Then there are the state, county and city taxes where you are paying for the police that risk their lives every time they pull someone over for speeding or driving drunk or even when they just stop to help you change a tire. Or there are the fire fighters that risk life and limb sometimes just getting to a fire to put it out, save lives and property. The county hospitals were those same fire fighters send the ambulance after they pull you out of the car you wrecked while driving drunk (if you do something that dumb) Oh, and the ambulance that takes you to the hospital, the roads you drive on, the buildings the city, county, state, and federal government is conducted in, all those lovely state and national parks we can go to on vacations, NASA, (some may think that a waste but I DO NOT!!), All the branches of the military have to be paid something and cared for when wounded or sick,... I could go on, but that's enough isn't it?
Besides I've heard that our taxes, at all levels here in the US, is a lot less than in many other countries.
Heck I've heard they tax televisions in the UK and not just when you buy them!! Do they?

the government may not be close to perfect but by far it is the best government in the world. let me ask u this? why do so many people enter this country for a better life? because they have a reasonable chance to experience freedom unlike any dictatorship or socialistic society.

we pay taxes for our freedom!
1. to pay the teachers who bust their butt teaching your children (if u have any) how to read, count, do math, learn history etc..
2. keep our schools clean and somewhat safe.
3. to pay for the firefighters that will risk their life's/team's life to save one individual and their pet in a house fire.
4. to pay for the police officers to keep our communities safe.
5. to pay for programs like the YMCA to keep kids of the street and away from drugs.
6. to pay for road work, ect..
7. to pay for the poor bastards in Iraq doing a duty far more honorable than most will ever do in a life time
8. to pay for some hospitals

what exactly do u want from the goverment?
