The current captain is Brendon Morrow, he replaced Mike Modano who replaced Darrien Hatcher when he left for the Red Wings. It is unusual for a captain to be replaced while he is still with the team as it tends to lead to tension. The stars claimed it is because Brendon is younger and will be with the team longer, it was going to happen anyway might as well do it now.
In some interviews Modano says he understands and respects the decision and in others he says he isn't sure why but if they want to go in a different direction that is there choice and he has to deal with it. I think it was a good move as the old saying is "sometimes your best player shouldn't be your captain" and I think that is the case in Dallas. Modano is a great hockey talent but I am not sure he has the mentality to get in someone's face to turn a team around.
