I'm at a fork in the road right now. I have two options to choose, none will be easy though rewarding. My story is that I wrestle JV for a big name school in Minnesota and I'm going to stay JV the rest of my career unless I lose around 60 lbs. to get into a lower class. Our team does not have any middle weights coming into next years team. It would be great to lose that much, but when football comes around a 170 lb. lineman won't be any good (unless your a super athlete like some people on my team.) With that I also want to play college football but I know no one would take a 170 lb. lineman. I would most likely have to be FS or WR. My other option is to gain around 50 lbs. to meet the maximum weight for my weight class and be bigger and stronger for football and to earn the right to play college football, but my heart and health will significantly decrease.

skip the wrestling....losing that much weight can be dangerous. a friend of mine was big into wrestling in high school, and the weight drop caused him serious kidney problems. you don't want to have to keep a urine bottle by your bed at night just because you may not make it, do you?

If your health will decrease, then choose the other option. Health first, always. Else you'll be kicking yourself in your enormous rear end 10 years from now.

Unless your knees no longer bend right.

You should discuss this with your doctor, as any significant decrease or increase in weight is not healthy. I understand you're thinking about your future, but it won't do you any good if you're too unhealthy to enjoy it.

Good luck- it's great to hear that you're thinking about your future.

Health is important....but if your doctor A-OKs it....whatever comes along....just do it. Life's too short.
