I've heard that Rammstein was inspired by Laibach and Megaherz, but I prefer Rammstein nonetheless. You've at least found the best German metal band (Rammstein) which makes it a bit more difficult for me to list the others.
Kmfdm is also similar, but they have a bit of techno stuff too sometimes.
I've heard of In Extremo, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter ("The Riders of Apocalypse" in English), Abrogation, Subway to Sally, and Eisregen, but I don't really like them as much as Rammstein myself. Perhaps you'll find you've got different music preferences than me though.
Die Ärzte, Silbermond, and Die Toten Hosen are good German bands which I also like although they aren't metal; they are sort of rock though, and they've got some pretty decent songs.
Also, I've read that Rammstein is supposed to be joining up again soon to make another album, and that one member of Rammstein has a band project on the side called Emigrate. Emigrate is supposed to already have an album set up, but I don't know if it came out yet or not.

Rammstein is currently my favorite german metal band and I am recently (past year) very into them too. So I think based on the fact we have similar taste I can offer pretty good ideas for you. By German metal I assume you mean bands that sing in German (like Rammstein) My first suggestion is the 2nd German 'metal' band I am obsessed with at the moment. 'In Extremo' they are unique, can be light and folky sometimes (almost medieval sounding) but they can really rock. They use bagpipes and other interesting intstrements. They are cool. "Vollmond" (Full moon) is a neat song. Also shortly after I got into Rammstein I got into both Ooomph! (German metal leaning towards both industrial and dance) and Megaherz. Oomph is good, they have some good songs, but they werent 'wow' material for me, but worth listening too. Megaherz I got into a bit but when they put out their new album 'Heuchler' (Hypocrite) last year, that's when they really got my attention. I love that song (title track) and the whole album is pretty solid. It's not Rammstein but it's pretty good! If you want something a bit different (also german vocals) try 'Einstürzende Neubauten' (Collapsing new buildings) They use home-made 'scrap metal' instrements for a unique sound. There are some great metal bands out of Scandinavia most sing in English. I would suggest Nightwish for something very different (I like the recent album 'Dark Passion Play') Rammstein is releasing a new album in the next few months to be followed by a winter tour.
