ok most laptops have a chip installed in them that can detect wireless internet. If your laptop doesn't have one, you can buy one to either plug into your laptop or get installed IN your laptop. You have to find an internet provider. I have SBC yahoo or something like that. You buy the modem (its just a little box about $50 one time cost) and then you subscribe to the internet. The box plugs into the phone jack. When you decide which internet you want to use they'll tell you this on the phone. Mine came with a disk that installs the network key on my laptop so I dont need a password to connect to the internet. The modem will send out the signal to the chip to your laptop and you'll be set. Anyone without the disk will need the password/network key which only you have.

No special requirement. Make sure you get a wireless router, a wireless card if you don't have one installed in your laptop. Make sure both are compatible with windows 98. Check out bestbuy or tigerdirect for wireless routers and cards.

Nothing much, just a wireless network adapter. You'll want to get (buy) a Linksys, because although Dlink claims to be designed for Windows, Windows has declared Dlink as unsafe.
Plug in your adapter, install the driver that came with it. Follow the onscreen instructions, when it comes to entering youe DNS, Static IP etc. tell it to detect automatically.
