my apartment is 785 square feet, and I'm alergic to cats and feathers. I'm also alergic to sawdust so like, hamsters would need sometihng else... I'm horrified of spiders, and I love lizards and reptiles and puppies. but I don't have enough time to train a puppy, because I'll be starting school soon, but I do have time to a reptile, but I'd like soething that wouldn't mind being petted when i got home. I was thinking of adopting an adult dog, or getting a turtle, but are there any better ideas? thanks :)

you should get an already trained dog. they might be a little more work to look after, but they are very good at cuddiling (unlike reptiles)

I suggest that you get a dog.
#1 They are adorable and love to be petted
#2 They are easy to train. You can train them on a daily basis or whenever you need to.
#3 If you get a short haired dog you won't have to vacuum the floor very often.
#4 As they get older they learn not to depend to much on you.
Before you go to buy the pet make a list of possible pets. After you have done that make a list of pros and cons. Once you have limited down the list then it should be easier to decide.
If you are about to start school again then I suggest you should wait till summer and then get a dog so you can train it and be committed to it. Any local Petsmart has training classes.
good luck

I have a bearded dragon (lizard), it's about 1 1/2 feet long and loves to be held. I keep it in my classroom and she will walk around the room or just sit on my student's laps. She is very social. She is actually low maintenance but can have pricey start up costs. They can get as big as the tank will allow. I feed her lettuce and crickets. What's nice is that you can go away for several days and you don't need a pet sitter.

Sugar gliders are the best small caged pets. There adorable and don't have that rat look hamsters have and there affectionate. Dogs and apartments don't mix well, wait till you have a private back yard for a dog! I've had many reptiles ...they get boring quick. Sugar gliders are normally $50-$150 and can be kept in a hamster like cage. Check the net and local clasifieds for breeders. read more about them @ http://www.skinhorse.net/gliders/

Hmmmm......
A dog is always good. You can find one to those specifications by searching on:

You can use other materials for hamsters and other rodents. A good first rodent would be a gunea pig. They are really cute, and they bond well with you. They live up to 6 years.
You could also try and find a puppy that is already trained on petinder.com
Hope you find a pet right for you!

get an adult Carin terrier that is already trained. (you know like Toto from "Wizard of Oz") they are so cute. they are playful as puppies, but when they get about 1&1/2 or so they calm down a lot. I prefer female. they even cuddle with you in bed and sleep with you.
Or get a puppy and put it through obiedience training.

Have you thought about some Hermit Crabs. They are relatively cheap and don't require too much time or effort, plus they are fun to watch at night.
If you want something furry, get a couple of rats. Don't use wood shavings, use Carefresh, no dust!

Get one of those googly eyed, green reptile thingys. The ones that eat crickets and in a billionth of a second sling shot the cricket with it's tongue to eat slowly. I think it's a chameleon, because it changes colors in it's surroundings.

you could get a ferret. i have 2. they are no trouble at all. i am allergic to cats & the ferrets do not bother me. they can be litter trained. do not require any bedding other than a blanket & they do not require much attention. however, you can also hold them in your lap. they are very loveable.
contrary to popular beliefs they do not smell bad if they are descented & their ears & bedding kept clean. everyone that comes to my house is surprised that i have ferrets because you cannot smell them. also, if you get one, do not bathe it frequently as this causes the ferret smell to be prominent. i bathe mine only when i have taken them outside & they got dirty.
also, i should have mentioned this first. make sure they are not illegal in your state if you choose to get one.
merry christmas & good look in the pet search
