i recently found myself in the situation of having my car stolen, it was recovered the same night, but however in a condition that was undrive-able. i later found myself 3 days later to be paying out £191 for my car because it had been in a garage awaiting the police to finger print it, £50 for scaping, £36 for 3 days storage and £105 of this was for the police for dealing with the matter, how is this fair why should i have to pay this out!? Its unfair to me, i lose my car then have to pay £12 a day for it to sit in a garage while it waits to be finger printed!!

i also need to add the facts that as my car was 18yrs old i was told by my isurance that i'd end up paying them £135 excess to claim and only get £50 back for the cost of the car, therefor lossing my NCB and increasing my premiums. And i've not got my car back as its a write off, because of the damage that had been done to it. so again how is this right/fair?? i could have scapped the car myself, for free without all the cost and hasel!!!

That scks, sorry to hear that happened. No, it's not fair that when your car is stolen you have to pay, but at least you got it back! I'm sure they are paying (indirectly at least) for the facilities and equipment (and salaries of the police who retrieved your car), so while it stinks, I'm sure they don't charge to be mean or to punish you! Be thankful you got your car back and have a happy holiday!

I would follow up with the police department and the prosecutor's office. Unfortunately all my experience isn't going to help too much since you're not in the United States. However, here the police department is responsible if they want to do any storage for the purpose of gathering evidence. Once the car is released though, that's another matter.

It appears that you're a young person with limited resources so the best suggestion I could make would be to contact a free legal aid service. They will be able to make the appropriate contacts and do so with much more clout.

Funny isn't it these questions come before you think to ask your insurance company if your covered. :) :)
But it sound fair to me for the garage
What is L191 in USA $

Doesn't sound fair at all. If they have control over it taking 3 days, then you shouldn't be charges.

i don't think it is fair, but that is how it is. pay the costs and turn them in to your insurance co. my insurance co. just added it to the check they sent me for the repair costs. so in long run i wasn't out any thing other than some time.
