had a problem some how lost a NTLDR file tryed to re install from the master dvd. This was no help as nothing happend, it was supposed to reset to factory settings but never. i have a xp disc an was wondering is it wise to try install it, or will it work any help would be very helpful as i am using my old slow pc....thank you...and merry christmas

when you loose that file it is the classic warning that your hard drive is going bad. You can go ahead and install windows xp again, be sure to do a complete format. If it happens again replace the hard drive or if if windows won't install because it can not copy a file, just replace it now

If the XP disc is OEM branded from the manufacturer, you won't be able to use it on another system without using illegal methods. Besides, XP really has much higher system requirements than it says it does, meaning at least 512MB ram for smooth performance and a processor from the last 3-4 years.
