Grog is a mixture of rum and water that was given as a daily ration in the British Navy. The water was added to reduce the shelf life of the grog to stop the sailors from saving it up.
Allegedly "Old Grog" was the nickname of the officer who advocated this daily ration.
Amongst my mates grog was any booze, usually the ruffer stuff.
Uncle Billy was telling you to get drunk.

the grog in terms im used to is a terrible drink mixed basically with whatever you can find to make it taste horrible. its not nessacerily alcoholic, although most people think it is a form of alcohol, it can be i suppose, but its primary purpose is to taste bad. its used at social functions as a kind of punishment for violating established rules. everyone uses their own recipe, the stuff i had was made with cottage cheese, milk, vinegar, green olives, onions, tobasco and some other stuff.
when i had it, i was at a military mess night. basically a highly formal dinner with lots of complicated rules. if anyone violates the rules of the mess, or if anyone thinks they have witness offensive behavior, they would stand, ask permssion to address the vice president of the mess. then asks permission to speak to the president of the mess, then charges the violater with the crime. the president can then levy a fine, a small amount of money usually a dollar or two, that goes to pay for the meal. or they will get sent to the grog, where they have to drink a cup of grog.
i suppose you could use this to make parties more interesting.
