The british were fighting a war miles away thats hard to get supplies faster and they did not know the land as well as the americans did and they used guirella war tactics like hiding in trees while the british walked in a straightline and easy to spot in those big bright red coats.easy targets.and the colonists wanted it more.

I'm sure an historian or a military expert can give you all kinds of detailed and accurate reasons but I'd still go with this. It's the same reason the Viet Cong were able to kick the U.S. out of Viet Nam and why we are now taking such a drubbing in the Middle East.
THEY live there. THEY know where all the hiddy holes are. THEY have friends in high and low places that, no matter what lip service they may give the big kids, are really on THEIR side.
The British played war the way they had always played war. They marched around in their pretty red coats with the shiny buttons. They stayed mostly on the nice smooth roads to get from here to there.
The colonists snuck through the woods as they'd leaned from the 'Indians'. They attacked from cover and scattered when attacked in force. They ignored the rules that the British invaders insisted on playing by. They just about made their own rules of war.
Therefore the unruly, rule breaking American Colonists won. Just like the Viet Cong did and guess what...We need to wake up in the Middle East or it'll happen again.

Brilliant moves by people like George Washington, and Benedict Arnold, saved the war from disaster on several occasions, but in the end it was getting the French Fleet to block the British, and help that made the final surrender possible. The abilities of Ben Franklin in getting the French to help was also a big point.

Ultimately however, the most brilliant moves, and all the French help would have been of no use, without every patriot willing to risk hanging to stand against the legal government and their abusive policies.

American colonists were the first people to engage in "guerilla warfare" against the British, although at the time, it was not so-called.

Since the end of World War II, major US use of force against substantially weaker enemies: Vietnam, Lebanon, Somalia have ended poorly.

By using smart guerilla tactics learned from the Indians and some wee help from the French.

Remember that the colonists had home advantage and England had other matters to attend to.

They did not win the war, they prevented them from getting any further into America and pushed them back into Canada. There are no winners in war. It was a stale mate. The same goes for the war of 1812 too.

Because they had cajones, were strong willed, weren't afraid to die for their country and didn't have CNN proclaiming the Minute Men as the enemy while showing dead bodies of Brtitish soldiers just to stir up public sympathy for the enemy.

That's why we won.
