Usually it is the friend(s) that give the nickname, so if you can convince them that it was their idea..

This will be tricky, but don't ask them. They will come up with something close to your desired nickname, but something you won't like. In your case they may choose to call you "Frito" instead of "Freya".
Drop *very* inconspicuous hints. Maybe bring up other related nicknames for your other friends. Something like, "Hey, that Bill is a real trickster, maybe we should start calling him Loki".
At any rate, get them to think your nickname was completely their idea. Easier said than done, but that's the best way.
Good luck Freya.

This is what you should say; "Can you call Freya now? because it's better than my real name. I don't want you to think I'm weird, but I don't like my name and I like Freya better."
Pretty simple.

Well, the nicknames are born spontaneously. I have been called with more than 12 nicks at different kind of groups. But I wasn't happy with them usually. For example they would ( and actually they still call me ) " Little ". It is really annoying when they say it when you are in a queue... Think about a really huge guy (thats me ) called little...
Anyway , in your condition maybe you can say " I am Anubis but my friends call me Freya.." as they do in the movies..

Freya is also a weird name. They probably dont think your name is weird if they keep calling you it. Chill out and just except it. Or NICELY tell them to stop.

Start using your nickname in e-mails, postcards to your friends.
Better is e-mails. create a e-mail with real name , but change the outgoing name as "Freya". For e.g if your real name is "Nancy" then you can create a e-mail id such as nancyn@yahoo.com and create your outgoing name as "Freya".
You can also start signing your casual letters and e-mails as Freya.

I would just tell them that you would rather be called Freya b/c you don't like your real name if they are friends they'll understand not call you crazy.

pick one friend you really think you can convince...someone you might be closer to. Ask her to call you Freya and if she does, your other friends will catch onto it also. They might ask "why is she calling you that" though...so where did you get the name? a book you love?

When you have them over, tell you're parents, brothers, sisters etc. to call you Freya. If your friend says "Why do they call you that" Say "A LOT OF PEOPLE DO!" "You can too!" maybe your friend will catch on and your other friends will catch on.

I would just ask if they are your real friend they won't care what you want them to call you. But on second thought, Be confident in your real name it the ones your parent picked for you and having a different name isn't bad it's unique!!

If they have known you for sometime it will take them awhile to get use to "Freya" however they may like your given name and choose not to call you by your new one.
