I have gone through what your going through three times with my eldest son, in which he vomited twelve times in less than a 24 hour period. If your child has a virus the fever should appear soon. Is it possible that you fed him something new? If you did give him something new it could be a reaction to the new food item. Is it possible that there was a food item that you gave him in which the freshness could be in question? Is it possible that he ate something that you are unaware of? Try not to panic. The vomiting in itself is not the real concern. The only concern is that extreme consecutive occurrences of vomiting can make one become dehydrated. What you need to do is give your child small amounts of water, like one or two sips about every 10 minutes. The small amounts will be absorbed better in his body, large amounts may tend to make him vomit again. If he continues to extensively vomit you should take him to the doctor. As you didn't mention the child's age, I would say that if the child is only drinking breast milk or bottle feeding, I would take him to the doctor directly.

Be aware that no milk products should be eaten by a person vomiting. Its actually best not to eat at all.

You should check other signs, like is he having diarrhea? Is the stool really dark (blood in the stool)? If it is you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

I have been there and it is NO fun at all, especially on Christmas Eve. The main concern with an infant vomiting is dehydration. You want to make sure that you are still seeing wet diapers and that the urine is not too dark. A dry mouth and sunken eyes are also signs that your baby isn't getting enough fluids. If you see these signs you should head out to the hospital as there may be a need for IV fluids.
You should give one tablespoon of fluids every 10 mins. if they can hold it down. Plain water is NOT good and be careful of the high sodium content of Gatorade. Room temperature ginger ale is a good choice, ginger has natural stomach calming properties. Try to stay away from milk as it is a bit harder to digest and can upset the stomach even more.
I wish that I knew how old your little guy was so that I could give more specific advise. If you are worried I would call your doctor. In the meantime, I hope he gets better quickly. Merry Christmas.

Let him throw it away, and throw him a party! Give him a treat and say good boy! If he freaks out later and wants it back, remind him that he threw it away and that it's gone. If he has a hard time going to sleep, better now than in a couple of weeks when the baby's here. If you're too pregnant and tired to deal with it, give him another binky. He will give it up in due time. (Of course I would go with the first option as he is really too old for his binky any more). Also, the binky sure can be such help with a fussy baby to fulfill that sucking reflex. Kids habits are what we create for them. If we reach for the binky every time they fuss, we're creating the desire in them to have it when they fuss. If you use it for a little peace and quiet once in a while, they won't form a habit. It's when it becomes your first course of action that it becomes a problem. I said that I wasn't going to give one to my third child, but with a two year old to chase around, sometimes you just need something to satisfy the baby so you can tend to your older child. Good luck to you!

If your baby is actually throwing up, and can not hold anything down, then you need to take the baby to emergency. There could be a few reason's why it is happening. Do not worry, if it turns out to be a flu, and there is nothing they can do..medical staff would much rather be on the error or caution then to just let it go and assume it was nothing!. If the baby is spitting up, sometimes it can look like vomit..try feeding her more slowly..taking time to burp her well..
If you can not tell the difernce between the 2, perhaps it is best if you take her in anyways...just to make sure all is alright and you can ease your mind.

If he is acting like everything is normal, then he is fine. But if he is being funny, like not focusing or seams weak, then he is losing fluids and needs to go to the hospital immediately! Every second counts with a little one!
There was this bug going around in my area for a while. It caused vomiting then horrible diarrhea. It lasted 3 days and a few of my friends had to go to hospital because they were losing too many fluids.
It's never silly to be sure, if you are worried call your doctor or go to A&E.
I hope he is well soon, it's a worrying time!

I would say to watch your baby carefully. If you are brestfeeding, offer to nurse your baby as often as possible- if there is a virus going around your body will make antibodies and send them right along to your baby through your breastmilk.
I can not agree with the recommendations of giving any baby the chemicals and simple sugars in Kool-aid, especially while they are sick. I believe the person was trying to help you keep your babies electrolyte balance in check, if you are breastfeeding, doing so often will accomplish this.

If you are not breastfeeding, it could be the formula (could have sensitivity or allergy)-or- sometimes babies who are formula fed will cry for a bottle, because of thirst, not hunger, and they eat very enthuiastically to quench thier thirst, and end up throwing up because their tummies get too full. You could try to give your baby very watered down formula, or plain water to see if that helps. And keeping baby upright may help if it is a matter of over feeding. ( if you live in a colder climate and have the heating on, it is very likely your baby would get thirsty, as its so dry.)

If your baby does not keep any food down, or water down, and seems dehydrated definately go to the doctor.

I hope your little one feels better soon! :D

my son goes thru this just about each time he gets his vacinations. basically as long as the vomitting does not last more than 24 hours and he doesn't get a fever over 103 you are ok. the advise I got was after he vomits wait one hour if no vomit give him one teaspoon of kool-aid or gaterade (the sugar helps they say) wait 15 min if that didnt come back up give him another keep repeating this. after 1 hour if all is still down you can do one teaspoon every 10 min in the same way. this is a very long process that pissed my kid off (cause he was thirsty) but it does work.
good luck.
