This day is also sometimes known as Epiphany day, El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings), the Día de los Tres Reyes Magos (The day of the Three Magi). It celebrates the day when a group of Kings or Magi of the Bible arrived to worship and bring three gifts to the baby Jesus after following a star in the heavens. In Spanish tradition, on the day of January 6th, three of the Kings: Melchor, Gaspar, and Balthazar, representing Europe, Arabia, and Africa, arrived on horse, camel and elephant, bringing respectively gold, frankincense and myrrh to the baby Jesus.

Similar to other traditions, it varies in importance to each individual - some more than others. But Three Kings Day is not just for Hispanics. The holiday also is celebrated as far away as the Philippines and France.

Three Kings Day or Epiphany is a Catholic celebration that falls on January 6th. This is when the Three Wise Men followed the star to Bethlehem and presented the Christ child with gifts of gold, frankinsense and myrrh. (It seems quite fitting to give gifts on this day).

It is part of our tradition as Latinos. (I'm actually Mexican). My whole family celebrates Three Kings Day on Jan. 6 and it is a wonderful tradition, but definitely not more than Christmas.
We have what we call Rosca de Reyes (literally translated is a King's bundt cake) which contain between 1 to 5 little baby Jesus to find. If you find one of them, then you throw a party and bring tamales for everybody who ate the Rosca to eat on Feb. 2.
It's a wonderful tradition and I look forward to it every single year.
