I think we are all confused as to the meaning of coat/pond feature.
This is my answer . If you want a small look alike pond get and old 1/2 barrel from garden center, some already have inserts to prevent leaking. Fill with water and water plants and 1 or 2 goldfish. Make sure it's sitting on stump before you put the water in. Make sure you wait a couple of weeks before adding fish. And no late afternoon sun only morning sun.
If you mean an addition to pond. How about an Japanese lantern on the stump.

If you want to preserve the wood, then char the stump using a torch. Charred wood will last for centuries under water. And the charred wood will not have an adverse effect on the water quality in your pond. Any chemical coating you may apply will be short lived and it will break down and could be toxic to life in your pond.

if you mean the old stump is haollow or you want to hollow it to create a lil pond. Use a pond liner. If you were hoping someone woould say "trash bags" or Plastic wrap or something cheap, sorry. It will probably only frustrate you because of how much it doesn't work.

Should not need any coating, unless the wood has been treated with a preservative

you can coat it with fern on top and moss all over the stump for starters, later plant flowers on it between the moss & fern for beauty.
