My husband and I are having a hilarious arguement about how many reindeer Santa has.

I said 9, he said 8, and my six year old said 12.

I don't know all of their names either, could you help?

My five kids are so confused and my husband and I can't decide because we are laughing at the fact that we don't know!

I need names, number, and any other things you think of!

Thanks, and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Reindeer are often used in works of Christmas-related fiction, as Santa Claus' sleigh is said to be pulled by flying reindeer. These were first named in the 1823 poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, where they are called Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder and Blixem. Dunder was later changed to Donder and — in other works — Donner, and Blixem was later changed to Blitzen.

In later works, other reindeer has been added to this list, including

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Robbie the Reindeer
Olive, the Other Reindeer (actually a dog that thinks she's a reindeer)
Chet from The Santa Clause 2

So technically, your 6 year old is right 8 + 4 = 12

Margarita and you are right it is 9! now you can do your own little victory dance because you have just outwitted your other half and your five kids. Maybe you should sit down and watch Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer and you will see that it is nine tiny little reindeer that guide Santa's sleigh, even though it used to be eight until Rudolf came on the scene and saved Christmas that one foggy night.
