The BWM 328i is the standard Three Series BMW with a 2.8 litre engine. It has rear wheel drive. The 328xi is a vastly different kind of vehicle intended for muddy, snow covered, icy, off road conditions where maximum traction is required. BMW's xi is a full time, all wheel drive vehicle, which means you cannot switch out of four wheel drive back to a two wheel rear wheel drive car. The car has two full time differentials which are always "connected". The car has a heavy duty "X" frame layout and weighs maybe 500 Kg. more than the two wheel rear drive cars. It has a significantly higher fuel consumption record because of the additional work loads and road conditions it was designed to work with.

the 328xi is all wheel drive which means more fuel economy but also means better performance than the 328i which is rear wheel drive which is common in all cars. So if you are buying a bmw i would recommend the x or all wheel drive.

No real changes between the two model years. Chrome tailpipes now standard on the 2008. For those with auto trans, paddle shifters added as an option to 2008. Otherwise, it's the same car.
