So far the answers given are only partially right. The PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games, INCLUDING Guitar Hero 1 and 2.

However, the PS3 is NOT compatible with the guitar hero guitar that is needed in order to play guitar hero. As one person said, this is where the adapter will be needed, to be able to plug in your guitar hero guitar to the PS3.

Definitely keep your eyes and ears open for the adapter, until then, you will just have to play Guitar Hero 2 on your PS2.

nicely I actually have a ps3 yet i've got not tried my guitar hero video games on it. yet i understand which you particularly choose for a ps3 guitar controller considering you plug ps3 controllers into usb ports instead of the ports that the ps2 makes use of. No ps2 controller will paintings on the ps3 till it has a usb port ingredient on it instead of what is going into the ps2 (that's amazingly unlikely that there is a controller for ps2 like that).

Sorry to break it to you but no you can't. But I think that they are going to make some kind of adapter for it soon. But why not just use your ps2 for guitar hero? It still needs some love.

Playstation 3 currently doesn't support gameplay from all ps2 and ps1 games unfortunately. So give your ps2 some love, and dump that ps3 trash.
