the half track was in fact intended to as a vehicle to pull heavy loads ( guns ) without any problems where a normal truck couldn't come. They where mostly used by the German, french and American army
The Germans had the most different models from a light vehicle the kettekrad ( a kind of motorcycle ) to the most powerful half track the mighty Famo ( used as a wrecker to tow the panzer's out off the field )
The skfz 250 and 251 are in fact half tracks ( the demag 10 ) that have received a armored body to there chassis and where used as a troop Carrier and in many different variations
How do they look = like a truck but instead the rear wheels there is a system with tracks in stead

Half Tracks are basically hybrids between tredded and wheeled vehicles. They can be used for farming, transportation, or escort for both civilian and military uses. Its purpose us exactly in the word; being half one and half the other, it can be used both on roads and open ground for tons of uses. Unfortunately, its design is based upon economy of scale meaning its efficiency decreases as its specialization increases.
