I do because it is fun to give... and to recieve as well...
You see, I am a barking mad, raving lunatic for Christmas!
Happy Christmas, Judith and everyone.

I have wondered the same thing myself, even tho I too am guilty of it. Why do we panic buy when the shops are only closed for the day? Yes it's ridiculous but we all do it so there must be some logic in there somewhere!! Happy Christmas to you!!

Its actually pretty easy to avoid that, its just caused by a lack of planning. I shop all year long. The best sales are usually in the summer, anyway. When I see something I know one of the people on my list would like, I pick it up. That way, your spending is spread throughout the year, and all your shopping is done by October. Then you can relax and enjoy the holidays. The most money I spend in December is on food.

Uh, because it is tradition and we like to give and get gifts, but sometimes people are just grinches and greedy and want more and more and want and want and want and are never satisfied (my fiance's mother) does not know what the value of money is since she is spoiled and does not work. Any gift we would have gotten her, even if it was a house, she stil would complain that it was too small or in the wrong neighborhood, so you know what! I will never get her another gift again!

Well, I do understand the hype of holidays, but as I shop carefully, usually starting months ahead of time (THAT will foil their plans!!!) and have children... I love to see them get the most out of the day... It is ever worth it to me to thrill them to no end, I suppose. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I don't only do it on Xmas... I don't buy for anyone but my kids, so I feel fine about it.

Because we have been brainwashed by all the adverts.
But also because it's the season to give...
I use it as an excuse to eat as much choccy as i want without feeling bad (luckily i have a really quick metabolic rate or i would be huge)

Hello,
Its called brainwashing!, advertising! & socal pressure to conform to the norms. To believe in the mythe or fairy story of Xmas, its a load of capitolistic non sense only created to make yet more profits.
**Me cynical never!!! cannot wait for 2nd January so I can forget Xmas for another year.
