Falling on an outstretched arm often breaks the head of the radius bone in the elbow. This is the smaller bone that allows you to rotate your palms upward. Falling on an outstretched hand also can tear ligaments and rupture tendons in the biceps, triceps and muscles in the forearm. This type of injury takes a long time to heal, and it may not heal properly if you don't do the proper stretching excercises and keep the inflammation down. If you have a full range of motion in your arms and wrist, then you probably wil not have long-term effects. If you do not have a full range of motion, then you probably should see an orthopedic specialist for x-rays and instuctions on how to get things to heal properly.
