You can go to google or yahoo and do a web search for the author or book you are looking for.
Like:
Stephen King book list
or
book The Shining author

You might want to try www.worldcat.org. Once you come up with a record for a book, you can put in your zip code, and worldcat will tell which are the nearest libraries to you that own the book. As others have mentioned amazon is also useful.

On All Consuming you can search for books and keep a list of the ones you have "consumed" which are archived. You can write reviews if you want. Most books are there-if not you can add it to their library and be the first to consume. Their book pictures will take you to amazon where you can buy if you want.
