My ex is in the Macomb County jail and I am interested in sending him a letter. We are both currently with other people and I don't want to cause any issues for either of us. If I send something to him, will other prisoners read it and cause issues for my ex? Also, if he sends me something will it be obvious on the envelope that it is delivered in that it comes from the jail or can it be delivered w/o a return address? Are there any rules (implied or real) about what one should/shouldn't write to an inmate?

No other inmate should be able to read his mail, unless he allows it. The jail staff will open the letter to make sure it does not contain contraband, but they aren't really interested in sharing info from it with others.

If he writes you back, he has to put the return address of the jail on the envelope. He also can't send his letter to someone else and have them send it to you.

For any rules about content, you'd have to call the jail and ask. Those rules can be very specific to individual jails.
