At first it describes his hard work, then the analogy of a virtuous person is presented in the last stanza.

Your link doesn't work - I mean no poem appears when the page opens - but if it's the poem I think it is, it's not about the US, but about an English Blacksmith so none of your alternatives applies (they don't have villages in the USA do they - everything is grand and either a town or a city)

D. is the answer, and rdenig doesn't have a clue, for his info Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote it and it IS about American frontier life and we STILL have small villages and towns.
