Add more ram, simple to do. Find out what type of ram your system currently has installed and then go to any electronics/computer store and buy more and install it. If you are unable to install ram yourself take it to bestbuy and let the geek squad handle it.

You have TWO problems on your hands:
1. 256 MB (191 MB is worse) is barely enough to run winodws XP. In todays computer world the minium should be 512 MB,but if you can always go for the 1 GB RAM. and YES do upgrade your System RAM so it will run more efficantly. When your computer doesnt have enough RAM to handle your computing it will store the excess memory in the hard dirve. That is why it is sooooo slow when you have little RAM.
2. Your second problem is your graphics card. Your graphics card is most likely sharing its video RAM with your system RAM. This is easy to fix.
What you need to do first is check to see which type of expansion slots you have. If it is a new cheap computer ($500 and less) it most likely is still using PCI*. If it is new,but quite expensive it is using either AGP** or PCIe***.
Once you have figured out which type of slot you have go to the electronics store in your area and look for a video card that:
-Matches the type of slot
-Has its own video RAM
-DOES NOT share its Video RAM with the computer's System RAM.
Also you could consider getting a new computer if its still sluggish, because your processor is old and too slow. or it could be your low on hard drive space.

wait, if you're saying you need 256, then yes, buy more ram. If you're saying you have 256 but only 191 is showing up, try swapping the ram to a different ram slot, or getting somebody who knows how to do that for you

look ur ram is 191 bcz it is being shared with ur graphics memory .............
it is bcz ur comp. does not hav a graphics card i.e. it is built in....
look the only probable solution for this is to add a new ram module.probably 256 so as to compensate ur memory coz if u add 128 it wont b equal and ur comp's speed wont increase efficiently.
bcz at a time only one ram will b used.....
look in short it should b in pairs
i.e.
128 - 128
256 - 256
512 - 512
1gb - 1gb
etc..........

if its an older computer then maybe its supposed to have 4 sticks of 64MB and one of them isn't working or isn't inserted properly. that would explain the 191MB. I'd suggest getting more RAM put in but check the slots work first and that the motherboard can handle the amount your looking to put in. If you're new to this, putting new RAM sticks in is easy enough but you need to find out what type of RAM your motherboard supports too. good luck! oh and merry christmas

yes you do need more ram the more ram you have the better but let me say this first you better take it to someone who knows computers and have them tell you what to do in your case dont do anything your self unless you are a computer pro if not dont touch anything it all cost money to get things done right and it is worth it once you get all you want done and for whatever reason if you dont know what you are doing dont do anything just pay the pros to do it for ya merry christmas!

Hmm..
Its a basic prob with ppl.Windows Xp requires so much of memory bcz of its visual effects and background services. So to mak ur system faster follow the two methods:
1. Open properties of my computer.Go to advanced tab.Press "settings" button under performance heading. Now select option: adjust for best performance.
2.Disable all un neccessary services in Windows.Go to rum and type "services.msc" and press enter.
now.Now go through the services and disable or manual the un neccessary services...
Beware...
Some of these services are required for advanced usage...
Hope this helps...
Take care

You have alot of stuff bogging down your system.I would do a system clean up. I downloaded one yesterday, free and it works great. http://www.stevengould.org/software.clean and you could run a system defrag. Also here is a site for a free ram boost, havent tried it yet but will. http://www.freeramxp.com Hope this helps.
